Diagnostics – ARP Table (Troubleshooting Guide)
Overview
The ARP Table diagnostic tool allows administrators to view IP address to MAC address mappings learned by the device.
This helps in identifying connected clients, gateway devices, and Layer-2 connectivity issues directly from the Cloud Controller — without needing local access to the router or access point.
Using this tool, administrators can quickly verify whether devices are reachable within the network and troubleshoot common issues such as IP conflicts, gateway reachability, and client connectivity problems.
Navigation
Path:
Select Network → Monitor → Network Devices → Action (Gear Icon) → Diagnostics → ARP Table
Device Selection
At the top of the Diagnostics page, device details are displayed:
Device: Selected device MAC address
Model: Device model identifier
MAC Address: Hardware address of the device
Administrators can select another device using the Device dropdown selector.
Running ARP Table Scan
To retrieve ARP information:
Navigate to the ARP Table tab
Click the Run button
The device will fetch and display ARP entries
Two views are available:
1. Upstream ARP
Shows ARP entries related to uplink / gateway side devices.
Example Use Cases:
Verify gateway reachability
Confirm ISP router MAC detection
Troubleshoot WAN or upstream network issues
Validate routing path availability
This helps determine whether the device can properly communicate with the default gateway or upstream router.
2. Clients ARP
Displays ARP entries for locally connected clients.
Example Use Cases:
Identify connected wired or wireless clients
Detect duplicate IP address issues
Verify DHCP assignment success
Confirm Layer-2 communication between client and device
This is useful when users report no internet access or intermittent connectivity issues.
ARP Table Fields Explained
IP Address – Assigned IP of the detected device
MAC Address – Unique hardware address
Device / Interface – Interface or VLAN where client is learned
VLAN – VLAN on which the device is detected
Last Seen – Time when entry was last updated
When to Use ARP Diagnostics
Use ARP Table diagnostics when:
Client is connected but has no internet
Suspected IP conflict
Need to verify gateway communication
Troubleshooting VLAN reachability
Validating DHCP or routing issues
Checking whether device is visible at Layer-2
