Diagnostics – Wi-Fi Scan
Overview
The Wi-Fi Scan tool allows administrators to analyze the surrounding wireless environment directly from the selected device.
It helps identify nearby Wi-Fi networks, channel usage, signal strength, and possible interference.
This tool is very useful for troubleshooting slow Wi-Fi performance, connection drops, or coverage issues without requiring physical access to the device.
Navigation
Path:
Select Network → Monitor → Network Devices → Action (⚙) → Diagnostics → Wi-Fi Scan
Device Information
At the top of the page, the following device details are displayed:
Device – Selected device MAC address
Model – Device model number
MAC Address – Hardware address of the selected device
Administrators can switch between devices using the Device dropdown selector.
Running a Wi-Fi Scan
Select the Wi-Fi Band
2.4 GHz
5 GHz
Click the Run button.
The device will scan nearby wireless networks and display the results.
Wi-Fi Utilization Graph
After running the scan, a utilization graph is displayed.
This graph shows:
Channel usage in the selected band
Signal interference levels
Congested vs less-used channels
Use Cases
Identify crowded Wi-Fi channels
Choose the best channel for SSID configuration
Improve Wi-Fi performance
Reduce interference from nearby networks
Scan Results Table
The scan results display nearby Wi-Fi networks with the following details:
Channel – Channel number used by the detected network
SSID – Name of the nearby wireless network
BSSID – MAC address of the access point
Security – Encryption type (e.g., WPA2, WPA3)
Signal % – Strength of the detected network
Wireless Mode – Supported Wi-Fi standard (e.g., 11n / 11ac / 11ax)
Use Cases
Detect overlapping networks
Identify strong interference sources
Plan optimal channel and band settings
Validate site Wi-Fi environment remotely
Best Practice Recommendations
Prefer less congested channels for better performance
Use 5 GHz band for high-speed connectivity where coverage allows
Use 2.4 GHz band for wider coverage areas
Perform scans during peak usage hours for accurate analysis
